About Us

Headingley Farmers’ Market is a highly successful farmers market in North West Leeds. The monthly market (2nd Saturday) has over 20 food stalls and there is music performed by a range of local bands and performers.

We are committed to these core values:

  • Providing good quality food direct from the producer, mostly from within a radius 30 miles of Leeds

  • Being a focal point for the community

  • Providing food that the community wants - so people can do a full range of shopping at the market

The Market is an enterprise of Headingley Development Trust, a locally owned social enterprise. It is managed and organised by a group of volunteers. They appoint a paid market manager who organises a group of young people who erect and dismantle the stalls.

A small group of residents from Headingley decided to start the Farmers Market as one way of regenerating the area which had lost many of its fresh food shops. It was launched in September 2006 and has grown from strength to strength. It is used by all members of the community and is now the place to food shop, meet friends and to have fun on a Saturday morning.

Headingley Development Trust owns The Headingley Greengrocer on North Lane. It also supports The Natural Food Store, an independent community owned co-op.

It is accredited by FARMA, now FRA, the membership organisation for farmers’ markets and farm shops. It is the winner of FARMA’s Community Spirit Award 2011 and of the Yorkshire Life “Best Farmers Market” 2011 in its prestigious Yorkshire Food and Drink awards.
