Swillington News

Swillington Organic Farm are now sharing their stall with new company Headbangers. This is a brand new set up with Swillington’s butchers Bob and Zane who will be selling sausages and bacon made on the farm with Swillington’s pork. This will be alongside the ‘bestsellers’ from Swillington’s pork, beef, lamb (all from Swillington) and chicken (produced off farm as currently) range. There will be organic beef mince, steaks, and joints. Organic mutton, whole chickens and portions, pork ribs and joints as well as offal. Swillingtons will also continue to offer a wider range available to order in advance for collection at the market. They are adapting the range of meat they bring along to the market and adding additional inventive sausage flavours and bacon.

Holy Smokery News

Holy Smokery draw their inspiration from the simple, pure and sustainable artisan techniques of the Monks who lived and worked at Kilnsey Estate from 1155 to 1536. The Holy Smokery recreates the link with the original pioneering Monks, combining the finest local produce of fish, game and meats with distinctive herbs and spices such as Long Pepper (once more valuable than gold) andVerjus.

Four decades ago the Roberts family rediscovered the 850 year old tradition of rearing and smoking fish at Kilnsey Estate. Today Award Winning Chef Jake Buchan continues this tradition still using the Kilnsey Spring Water reared Trout along with other fresh local produce creating by hand, small batch wonderfully tasting artisanal smoked foods using techniques with natural wood smoke.


HEADINGLEY FARMERS’ MARKET SATURDAY February 8th (2nd Saturday of the month)

January market will see 22 stalls in the Rose Garden.


NORTHERN GREENS offering microgreens – pea shoots, sunflower shoots, rambo radish shoots and china rose radish shoots. These amazing little vegetables are grown using organic seed and organic soil. Pots and bags used are made from plants not plastic and can be composted.

MELANIES CHOCOLATES with their usual yummy selection.

LEAVE NO TRACE are back offering zero waste items such as washable cotton rounds, biodegradable sink sponges, wooden toothbrushes and zero waste sandwich wrap will NOT be back until March.

PLATE 2 PLATE compost will NOT be back until March.

SLOW RISE BAGELS bringing a variety of their delicious bagels made in their bakery in Leeds.

BACKGARDEN BLOOMS with their beautiful flowers will NOT be back until May.


STICKEYS HONEY with their wide selection of honeys.

HOLY SMOKERY from Kilnsey will be bringing their smoked trout, salmon and chicken (organic) and cheese along with sour dough bread and smoked herbs.

WHOLE IN THE GROUND with their different coffees and their swiss water method decaffeinated coffee as well as half in half.

REALLY INDIAN from Meanwood source all their vegetables from Yorkshire and will be bringing their samosas, onion bhajis, pakoras and cook-in curry sauces including recipes from 6 different regions of India.

WILDCRAFT BAKERY a completely gluten free bakery from Meanwood will be bringing their gluten free breads and other gluten free products.

YORKSHIRE PIE BAKERY with their wide range of different flavoured pork pies made from locally sourced pork.

John JOHNSON with his ever popular fresh fish.

As usual we will have our THREE CHEESE STALLS bringing very delicious but very different types of cheeses to Headingley, LINCOLNSHIRE POACHER, CRYER AND STOTT and SQUEAKY CHEESE. They all have prize winning varieties and lots of tasters to try. Lincolnshire Poacher sell raw milk and butter from their farm as well as cheeses.

BONDGATE BAKERY from Otley will have a wide selection of all kinds of breads.

SWILLINGTON ORGANIC will bring chicken, pork, beef and lamb from their East Leeds Organic farm including their award-winning sausages. And they will be sharing their stall with new company Headbangers who will be selling their own tasty sausages and bacon made from Swillington pork.

HEADINGLEY COUNTRY MARKETS our very own co-op, producing cakes, biscuits, and preserves from Headingley kitchens.

Jo at THISTLEMIST will have her many homemade soups and sauces.

ORGANIC PANTRY with a packed stall of organic vegetables.

Mario OLIANAS with his pizzas, enormous doughnuts and his home-made award winning Yorkshire Pecorino Cheese and lots more.

Yannis KARDAMARKIS with olive oil and olives from his family farm in Crete and many other Greek delicacies. You can refill your olive oil bottles and save money.

YORKSHIRE ORCHARDS with apple juice and juices mixed with many local fruits - raspberries, rhubarb, strawberries, blackcurrants, blackberries.

CHURCH FARM EGGS with their hen, quail, and duck eggs.



There will be music from the amazing Kilburn Cole and Render performing from about 10.30am


Our monthly game for the kids is becoming more and more popular. We make up a different game every month – always fun to do and everyone gets a small prize. Come to the Headingley Development Trust (HDT) Stall to join in.

The HDT Stall has lots of information about events in Headingley. If you are not already a member of HDT you can give your support to the many local projects it runs by becoming a member for £5. The stall also sells the red Farmers’ Market shoulder bags for £4 each.

Don’t forget your recycling- egg boxes and jars. You can also get refills of olive oil from Yannis’s stall.

We do not sell hot food and drinks at the Market as there are lots of cafes in Headingley. Why not have a coffee or lunch at HEART Café on nearby Bennett Rd. Like the Farmers’ Market it is an HDT project so please support it.
